Madikeri: Columnist Santosh Thammaiah, who was arrested on the charges of provocative and persuasive speech on Tipu Sultan and Prophet Mohammad on November 5, has been released on a conditional bail, here on Tuesday, November 13 evening.
Santosh Thammaiah was granted conditional bail by the JMFC Court.
Santosh was booked under IPC Section 295 (A) (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), by the Gonikoppal Police.
He was arrested in Tumkur, yesterday, that is November 12 midnight and was brought to Kodagu. Later he was produced in the court.
Advocate Krishnamurthy argued the case for Santosh Thammaiah. Krishnamurthy is said to have presented his side of the case and the proceedings went on for around 35 minutes.
Krishnamurthy was backed by another young advocate named B M Ayyappa.
After having carefully examined the arguments put forth, the court pronounced conditional bail to Santosh.
The residents of Kodagu, namely Machaiah and K G Dattatri, had voluntarily come forward to provide bail surety to Santosh.
Hundreds of Hindu activists had gathered in front of the court along with Santosh Thammaiah’s supporters, to boost his morale.
A large contingent of media was also observed.
Earlier, Santosh Thammaiah was arrested by the Gonikoppal Police led by Inspector Shridhar at around 11.15 PM, on November 12, from his wife’s residence. He was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by Siddpura resident Askar K A.
