Madikeri: The CNC (Codava National Council) has decided to go on a protest on September 21 in front of the DC’s office demanding for permanent housing and rejuvenation of the affected lands for the victims of Kodagu floods.

In the press meet on September 19, President of CNC N U Nachappa said, “On the protest day, we have decided to gather the victims of seven regions of the districts at 10 AM near the District Commissioner’s office”.

“Requests that were placed on September 1 and 12 for Kailpodh (Codava cultural tradition) will be submitted to the district administration to be handed over to the government”, he added

The council has also demanded to recognise the calamities that occurred in the seven regions of the district as a national and international disaster. The affected must get permanent housing, he added.

The council has blamed the Harangi dam to be the main cause of the floods. It has urged the government to identify suitable spots for housing facility and remove the dam from the spot.

Nachappa has said that until the rejuvenation process completes, both the state and Centre have to cooperate in providing necessary monetary aid. It should involve education for children, housing rent, construction of houses and other basic facilities. He has demanded an Rs 30000 Crore package from both the Centre and the state.

Nachappa has blamed some of the media sections for portraying that the whole of Kodagu has disappeared. Because of this, the relief materials and funds have been misused, he alleged.

Chembanda Janat Kumar, Kupadira Sabu were present in the meet.
