Madikeri: The City Crime Branch police cracked the sensational Chandrashekar murder case that took place on the night of Madikeri Dasara which triggered communal unrest in the district for the past few days.

Police nabbed prime accused Abdul Roshan Rehman and his accomplices M Z Mohmmed Rashid and  Nazeer in connection with the killing.

Revenge is said to be the cause behind the killing since the deceased Chandrasekhar had abused Rehman’s mother some time ago which forced the latter to kill his the former, his friend.

The prime accused, during interrogation, confessed to have plotted the killing of his friend for years to take revenge against him for abusing his mother.

The superintendent of police had formed two teams to nab the culprits involved in the case which was gaining communal colour after the right wing activists suspected the hand of Muslim fundamental groups to create unrest during Dasara festivities. They had even lodged a protest demanding the arrest of the accused, suspecting the hand of Rohnigya refugees and those belonging to KFD, PFD and other similar Muslim outfits.

After consuming marijuana, Roshan intentionally dragged Chandrashekar into a fight using his friends at around midnight on the night of September 30 and stabbed him to death. The accused were under the impression that a murder committed on the night of Dasara when lakhs of people flock into the city will be difficult to crack.

Chandrashekar succumbed to stab injuries on account of excess bleeding and Roshan along with his friends fled the crime scene. Roshan, later went to a hotel owned by one of his relatives before fleeing from the city.

Police zeroed in on accused Roshan and managed to nab him in the early hours of October 4 near KSRTC bus stand in Kushalnagar town. Based on the inputs provided by him, his accomplices involved in the crime too were apprehended by the police.
