Madikeri: For the past one week, a hungry tiger has been repeatedly killing the cattle of the villagers living close to the Meenukolly Reserve Forest Range near here.
A cow belonging to Robert of Ponnathmotte was killed by the tiger 10 days ago. Only a couple of days ago, the tiger struck again, killing a cow owned by Nagaraj that was grazing near the Chiklihole. The residents believe that for some reason the tiger is unable to hunt in the wild and therefore is targetting livestock in the village.
The CC cameras installed by the forest officials have captured the big cat roaming near the roads connecting Kambibaane and Rangasamudra. This has renewed the fear among the locals as students, workers and tourists regularly travel on this stretch of the road.
A rapid response team of the forest officials has been pressed into action to capture the tiger safely. The fearful and anxious residents have requested the officials to capture the beast at the earliest.
