Madikeri: “The Central government is implementing ‘anti-people’ policies and due to their negligence in implementing apt economic policies for labourers, labourers are facing a lot of financial issues,” said AITUC district president H M Somappa.

In a press release, Somappa informed that the AITUC will completely support the Bharath bundh on January 8.

The office bearers and members of the AITUC have said, “The BJP government in the Centre is loyal to the corporates and is forming policies accordingly. They have neglected the labour community, which toils hard and contributes immensely towards the economic growth of the nation. We all will support the nation-wide protest to be held on January 8.”

Placing several demands, Somappa said, “The salary system must be implemented and policies that are ‘anti-labour’ must be eradicated. A Labour Court should be established. Pension of Rs 10,000 shall be sanctioned by the government. Policies which have affected the economic growth of the country should be revoked. The price hike should be brought under control. All the agricultural products should get a proper support price. Loans of labourers and farmers should be waived off. The contract-based system should be prohibited and the workers should get permanent positions. The salaries should be paid equally based on the nature of the job. There are many such demands which the government should fulfill.”
