Madikeri: The Akhila Kodava Samaja has written a letter to the state government requesting it against cloud seeding in Kodagu and Malnad regions. Kodava Samaja has taken this decision after the state government decided to do cloud seeding in some parts of the state.
Mathanda Monappa, President of Akhila Kodava Samaja has written letters to the chief minister, Kodagu district in-charge minister, MLAs of the district and to the deputy commissioner of the district, reminding them of the natural calamity Kodagu district went through during last year’s monsoon season and how the district was struggling to come back to normalcy. If cloud seeding is done here, it might lead to another calamity more severe compared to last year, said Monnappa.
“Every year, monsoon reaches Kodagu in the month of June. Even this year, let it rain naturally. Human-made intervention would lead to another calamity and destroy the very existence of the people of Kodagu as well as Malnad area”, he opined.
Monappa said that the Kodava Samaja did not have any objection if cloud seeding was done in the drought-hit areas of the state.
If the government tries cloud seeding in Kodagu and Malnad region in spite of the opposition by the people here, then the entire region would stage protest, cautioned Mathanda Monappa.
He also called upon the people of Kodagu and Malnad to be alert and fight for their existence and attract the government’s attention towards their problem.
