Madikeri: Deputy Chief Minister Govind M Karajol has promised to release an additional Rs 58 cr for repairing the roads and bridges in Kodagu district, which were damaged in the recent floods.
The minister, who conducted an inspection on Wednesday, visited Madikeri-Sampaje road, Madikeri, Katakeri, Mannangeri-2 and other nearby areas. Later, speaking to reporters, Karajol said that Madikeri-Sampaje, Konanuru-Makutta, Virajpete-Kodlipete and several state and national highways have been damaged in the recent floods.
“The CM has already announced a package of Rs 536 cr. An additional Rs 58 cr will be released specifically for the Public Works Department,” he said adding that the government will need over Rs 1000 cr to take up repair works of bridges and roads damaged across the state and necessary steps are being taken to raise the required funds. He also called upon the officials of the various departments to specifically focus on rebuilding the damaged roads and bridges. MLA KG Bopaiah said that there is a need to look for a permanent solution for the problems existing in the district.
