Mechanical engineer turns farmer; sets example for modern youth

Koppal: When the times are such that the youths are attracted to worldly pleasures and luxurious urban life, here’s a young man, who has made up his mind to take up farming as his job.

Vinod Kumar, who has completed his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, has nurtured the land with profitable yields and has planted almost all varieties of veggies.

Vinod was drawing a salary of Rs. 20000 a month, but his interest and passion towards farming and cultivation could not make him wait more and attracted him to agriculture.

In 6 acres of land, he has incorporated drip irrigation, bore well, groundwater management and many other techniques. He has grown silk too along with commercial crops, which yields him satisfied income.

While most farmers cultivate only the land, Vinod has utilised even the mud boundary around his field to grow trees such as coconut, been and some other varieties from which he can procure oil.
Vinod’s father Shankrappa is said to be a binding support for his decision.

He has said that he stood for him when he wished to opt agriculture as his occupation and he is confident that his son will build a better future in this field.
