Kushalanagar: Kushalanagar police have arrested a woman for allegedly stealing money, including gold, in a pretext of predicting future.
The woman has been identified as Lakshmi alias Nagamma. She had visited the house of Lakshmi Devaraju, a resident of Bychanahalli, in the city and offered her assistance to predict future. The lady of the house let Lakshmi in and that’s when fraudster asked the lady of the house to provide her a tiffin box and put in some cash and jewellery. Accordingly, lady put in 300 gms of gold and Rs 31,500 in cash. Catching the lady unawares, the fraudster exchanged the tiffin box and gave her a different tiffin box instructing her to keep in the puja room and open it only after a week of offering puja. She also gave a lemon and asked to keep it at intersection of three roads.
Soon after this she asked the lady of the house to prepare lemon juice and added powdered sedative to it unawares instructing the lady of the house to drink the same. After drinking the juice, the lady of the house fell unconscious and Nagamma left the house with the loot. On waking up she found that tiffin box had stones and alerted her son through her neighbour. Following this, a police complaint was lodged.
Acting on the complaint, an investigation took place and the police were able to trace fraudster Lakshmi at Hiriyoor in Chitradurga. It came to light that Lakshmi had changed her name to Nagamma when she went for loot in the name predicting future.
