Madikeri: The Kodava Sahitya Academy–Bollinamme unveiled its silver jubilee programme logo on Friday, May 10. Academy President Pemmanda K Ponnappa, Registrar Chandrahasa Rai and all the members together unveiled the logo.
The silver jubilee of the academy will be celebrated on June 8 and 9 in Kaveri College, Gonikoppa.
On the occasion, three achievers from the fields of Literature, Art and Folklore will be awarded. The award will comprise Rs.50,000 cash and a certificate. The eligible awardees will be selected soon, said Ponappa.
The academy has requested the government to sanction funds for the programme. The total expenditure is expected to be Rs 8 Lakh to Rs 10 Lakh. The academy will be using the funds available with it for the programme if the government does not support, said Ponnappa.
Every year, the government was sanctioning Rs 70 Lakh for the academy programmes. This year, academy were expecting at least Rs 80 Lakh from the government.
The academy has helped nurture the talents of many writers and artists in the last 25 years. The Academy facilitates registration of a Kodava’s life from birth to death. The academy conducts various programmes to promote Kodava folklore, rituals, literature, theatre and cuisine in Kodagu district and outside.
The Bollinamme programme would include a cultural procession, cultural programmes, poetry session, seminar, a photo exhibition on Kodava culture, Kodava traditional food and book exhibition.
The meetings of the silver jubilee celebration committee are being held at the Kaveri College. Nine committees were formed to conduct the programme smoothly. Each select member of the committee was allotted a responsibility.
The Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy was started by former chief minister M Veerappa Moily.
The programme committee was planning to invite all those who played a role in the development of the academy. This will include politicians, academicians, businessmen, planters and people from other walks of life.
