Heavy rain lash Kodagu, Shimoga

Kodagu :Road connectivity between Bhagamandala and Talacauvery was cut off on Friday as huge boulders blocked the way following heavy rain in parts of Kodagu and Shimoga districts.

The boulders caved in and rolled down on to the road but no casualty occured as there was no traffic on the road at the time of the incident. Rain has intensified in Madikeri, Kutta, Srimangala and Napoklu. Water level in Triveni Sangama has increased.

 Since Thursday, Bhagamandala received 7.8 cm rainfall followed by Srimangala (7.4 cm), Shanthalli (6.2 cm), Madikeri Kasaba (5.7 cm) and Hudikeri (6.6 cm). The water-level in Harangi reservoir stood at 2,830.04 feet. The inflow of water was 771 cusecs.

Deputy Commissioner Anurag Tiwari said it would take at least two days to remove the boulders from the road. Hence, movement of vehicles on the road has been banned.

The boulders will be removed from Saturday. All the required excavators to remove the boulders have reached the spot, the DC said.

Various parts of Shimoga district received moderate to heavy rain on Friday. In the last 24 hours, Thirthahalli received the highest rainfall of 43.2 mm, followed by Sorab (12 mm), Hosanagar (8 mm), Sagar (5.4 mm), Bhadravathi (3.4 mm), Shimoga (3.4 mm) and Shikaripur (0.8mm). However, there has been no significant rise in water levels of various reservoirs.

Water level in Linganamakki remained at 1,749 feet against the maximum level of 1,819 feet. The catchment area of the dam received rainfall of 12.4 mm.

The inflow of water was 2,273 cusecs and the outflow was 170 cusecs. Water level in Bhadra was at 140.10 feet against the maximum level of 186 feet. The inflow of water was 2,085 cusecs and the outflow was 117 cusecs. The catchment area of the dam received rainfall of 2.40 mm.
