Kodagu: In a big shocker for the BJP in Kodagu, the party has failed to repeat its previous performance in the town panchayat elections, the results of which were announced on Wednesday, October 31. The party has lost its power in the Somawarpet town panchayat after 22 long years.
This time, the Congress emerged as the single largest party. Out of the 11 wards, the Congress won 4 seats while the BJP and JD(S) won three seats each. Apart from this, an independent candidate won one seat. The JD(S) and Congress are likely to form an alliance here.
In the Kushalnagar town panchayat, the Congress and BJP won an equal number of seats. Out of a total of 16 wards, the BJP and Congress won six seats each, while the JD(S) won four seats. Here too, the JD(S) and Congress are likely to join hands.
In Virajpet, the home turf of former speaker KG Bopaiah, the BJP suffered another setback. Out of the 18 wards, the party was able to win only 8 seats while the Congress won 6 seats. Independents won 3 and the JD(S) won one seat.
