Yellapur by-polls on Dec 5; Model Code of Conduct in place: Karwar DC

Karwar: Yellapur Assembly constituency will run into by-polls on December 5 and model code of conduct has been brought in to force in this regard, Deputy Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar K.

Addressing a news conference in his office, the DC said that Nov 18 is the last date for filing nomination. The candidates can withdraw the nomination on November 21. The polling will be held on Dec 5 and the result will be out on December 9.

Yellapura assembly segment has Yellapura, Mundagodu and Sirsi taluks. There are 231 polling centres in total. There are 87,899 male voters, 84,647 women voters in Yellapura. All the booths have been provided with drinking water facilities, ramps for voters with physical disabilities, toilet facilities etc and EVMs will be used for the elections.

Section 144 will be in force around 200 mts of each of the polling booths and sale of liquor will be prohibited on the polling and counting days. As many as 15 check posts are in place across the constituency, specifically on the border areas of the constituency such as Dharwad, Haveri and Shivamogga.

Additional DC Nagaraj Singrer, Additional SP Dr Gopal M Byakod and others were present.
