Karwar: The police, on August 3, arrested a 50-year-old man for raping his daughter-in-law.
The accused is identified as Bramha Harikantri (50).
It is gathered that Brahma Harikantri from Hilooru Village in Karwar sexually assaulted his daughter-in-law while there was no one at their home.
Six years ago the victim had married a youth from Navagraha Taluk in Kumta. The victim used to be alone at home during the night hours when her husband would go on the fishing boats. Taking advantage of the situation, Harikantri sexually assaulted her in the month of May. Soon after the incident, the victim went to her parents’ residence in Hilooru.
However, pained by the incident, the victim committed suicide after leaving behind a death note which mentioned the crime committed by her father-in-law.
Police arrested the accused from Malpe in Udupi.
