Honnavar: The alleged attack on a school girl here in riot-hit Honnavar following Paresh Mesta death case has a new twist with police revealing that she had herself inflicted injuries on self with a lemon thorn.

Uttara Kannada SP Vinayak Patil at a press meet revealed that the student, on December 14, after injuring herself had walked for 5km to Magodi instead of going home. The locals who saw her bleeding gave her first aid.

According to police, a youth named Ganesh used to waylaid the girl forcing her to love him. On December 14 too Ganesh and his friend Santhosh blocked her way and troubled her. On the same day, the girl had to appear for exams too. The girl in order to escape from the duo and skip the exams injured her hand with a lemon thorn.

The girl has been sent for counseling. Ganesh and Santhosh have been booked under POCSO act and a manhunt has been launched to nab them.

It may be recalled that the sangh parivar and the BJP leaders had alleged that the girl was stabbed while she was on her way to the school. The district which was already reeling under widespread protests following mysterious death of a youth Paresh Mesta post-communal riot, once again had to witness violent protests.
However, the police imposed prohibitory orders and several miscreants were arrested with the help of CCTV footages. Over 100 persons were booked for spreading provoking messages on social media.
