Karwar: Furious at finding students with mobile phones even after repeated warnings that the phones would be destroyed within the school itself, the principal of a Sirsi school smashed the phones he had confiscated, right in front of the students.
R M Bhat, Principal of MES Chaitanya PU College, had reportedly warned his students, just a few days ago, that he would destroy the phones in the school itself if the students were caught using them during class hours as per TOI.
While he agreed that the girl students required phones when they were travelling back home, some of the students are alleged to have broken the rules by exchanging messages in the classrooms.
On Thursday, September 12, he confiscated 16 mobiles from the students during a surprise check. He then called all the students to the school hall and with a hammer, smashed each of the confiscated mobile phones on a desk in full view of the students.
While some were ready to criticize his action, many were relieved and hoped that this will force the students to concentrate on their studies.
