Karwar: A case has been registered against a revenue department official for diverting state revenue collection for personal use after the misappropriation came to light during audit.
Accused Kishore Baadkar had diverted Rs 1.35 Crore in cash and Rs 2.35 Crore collected in the form of demand drafts for personal use between June 2017 and April 2018.
Baadkar assigned the role of acting sub-registrar, had managed to divert the revenue collection by hoodwinking the system and deposited only Rs 41 Lakh into the state treasury account. According to the procedure, all forms of revenue collection have to be first deposited in the Treasury-2, which is validated by the Cauvery software using the relevant deposit challans and documents. The said amount has to be ultimately deposited into the state treasury account by depositing the same in the designated bank. The entire procedure is online based, where the system at the main treasury keeps tab on all transactions.It is not yet clear how the accused official Baadkar managed to hoodwink the system, which appears to be foolproof.
During audit, when the collection amount did not tally with the deposits, the misappropriation came to light and the accused Baadkar was kept under suspension immediately.
Police registered a case under column 409C based on a complaint filed by the incumbent Sub-registrar Ariyappa Chima Naik and are investigating further into the embezzlement of state revenue by the accused official.
During audit in the recent past, the intelligence wing of the state revenue department accompanied by an audit team noticed the misappropriation and filed a case against the accused official after gathering prima facie evidence against him.
