Newly wed Bhatkal youth dies due to COVID-19; Wedding attendees panic

Karwar: A young man, who got married, on June 25 in Karwar, died due to COVID-19, causing panic and fear among the people who attended the wedding.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar, who informed about the same said that the youth was employed in Bengaluru, while his family members live in Mangaluru. They had all come down to Bhatkal on June 22 as the wedding was scheduled for June 25.

Since the youth had fallen ill during his wedding, he was forwarded for COVID test. However, even before his test results could come, the youth passed away in another district and the reason for death has been mentioned as ‘Non-COVID’.

At least 17 of his primary contacts have been tested positive and samples of over 70 persons have been sent for testing.

Meanwhile District Superintende of Police Shivprakash Devaraju said that Bhatkal youth had health issues, but he did not reveal about the same to anyone, causing the infection to spread. Hence a case will be registered.
