Karwar: The body of BSF soldier Vijayanand Nayak (29) was laid to rest with full state honours on Wednesday, July 11. Thousands of people had gathered to pay their last respects to the martyred soldier.
Vijanand Nayak who was attached to the 121st Battalion of BSF was killed in an IED blast carried out by Maoists in the jungles of Chotebetia Kanker district in Chhattisgarh on Monday, July 9.
The mortal remains reached Karwar via Goa in the late hours on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the casket was taken from the District Collector’s office to the Police Parade Grounds in a procession. Thousands of people from the town and nearby areas joined the funeral procession and paid their respects to the brave soldier.
A guard of honour was given by the state police by firing three rounds in the air as a mark of respect. District Collector S S Nakul paid respects on behalf of the district administration.
