Karwar: Vigneshwar Hegde, a resident of Hittalahalli taluk, Yallapur lost Rs 24 lakhs in the hopes of attaining a loan to start his own business.
Hegde, who was looking for a financing company to start his online marketing company, found a website called www.capitalmorganfinancial.com.
On the website, Hegde found the number of one David Patrick, who, over the phone, introduced himself as the director of the company.
David stated that this was an American company and could lend him a loan of Rs 60 lakhs. He then told Hegde that, to get the loan, he would have to pay a certain amount as fees for different procedures in order to avail the loan.
Not realising that this was a scam, Hegde followed all the instructions and shelled out a total of Rs 24 lakhs.
Soon, Hegde neither received the loan nor the Rs 24 lakhs which he had deposited in various banks accounts as per David’s instructions. Now, the latter has gone incommunicado.
A case has been registered at CEN Crime Police Station, Karwar in theis regard.
