Karwar: A lorry carrying a load of pomegranates toppled near Kamakshi petrol station at Yellapur on Saturday, January 4.
According to reports, the driver is said to have lost control of the lorry while trying to evade an oncoming vehicle over the national highway. The attempt eventually caused the lorry to topple.
Due to the impact of the accident, the lorry driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Yellapur Hospital.
As a result of the accident, pomegranates were scattered all over the road. The loss is estimated to be nearly lakhs of rupees.
Meanwhile, residents and passersby near the accident spot were seen pocketing the spilt load of fruits instead of helping the injured driver. At the same time, traffic congestion was observed on the national highway which was later cleared by the police.
A case has been filed at the Yellapur Police Station in this regard.
