Karwar tragedy: Missing fisherman found dead in charred remains of boat

Karwar: A fisherman, who was on board the purse seine boat that caught fire on Wednesday after battery explosion deep sea, was found dead inside the charred remains of the boat.

The dead fisherman has been identified as Amit Maali, 25.

As many as 20 fishermen had ventured into the sea for fishing on Jalapadma boat on Tuesday. However, while returning on Wednesday the boat caught fire leaving several fishermen severely injured. Fishermen from Kerala who were fishing in the same area spotted the boat go up in flames and reached out to the fishermen in distress and brought them to safety. After the incident, one fisherman had gone missing. His family and fellow fishermen had pinned hopes that he may have survived. Unfortunately, his dead body was found in the remains of the boat in a charred state on Thursday. The seven fishermen who were injured in the mishap are recuperating at the district hospital.
