Bengaluru: Bengaluru-Karwar night train via newly constructed Kunigal-Shravanabelagola-Hassan route is one of the major demands of thousands of commuters who travel between coastal districts and Bengaluru.
However, the railways was not keen on materialising the same and many alleged that the bus lobby was behind this. But now the Karnataka High Court has come to the support of the poor commuters. On Friday, a division bench of the High Court directed the Railway Board to give Speaking Order on the demand for new night train on this route with in three months.
The division bench headed by in-charge chief justice of the high court H G Ramesh issued order in this regard.
A Karwar resident Sanjay Revankar had moved to the high court in this regard. Sources say that if the train is operated on a new route it is expected to bring down the journey duration by two hours. It is also said that the Railways is planning to operate Karwar express on newly built Kunigal route four nights in a week soon.
