Karwar: A car hired by the Zilla Panchayat on monthly rental basis was recently seen ferrying wedding guests for a whole day. The incident has irked the locals and as soon as the issue came to light the ZP has reportedly issued a notice to the car driver.
A car bearing registration number KA 30 A 1787 was taken on rental basis by the ZP, which has been paying a rent of Rs 29,000 per month. The car has got add-ons to it which easily makes it identifiable as a government vehicle. However, with all the add-ons, the vehicle was given out to a wedding party, which has now landed the car owner in trouble. The rent is paid on the basis of the number of kilometers covered by the car. While a cut off distance of 2500 kms has been set, the rent for every extra kilometer is paid by the government.
If the vehicle taken on rent by the government is given out private individuals on rent then the government would be losing from its exchequer as the distance covered by vehicle will show high, while the car owner makes hay while the sun shines.
The car used by Zilla Panchayat Project Director being used during a private wedding has gone viral now.
Responding on the issue, ZP officer R G Nayak said that what has happened is wrong and precaution will be taken to avoid such episodes in future.
