H1N1 influenza claims two lives in Uttara Kannada

Karwar: Two persons, who showed symptoms of H1N1 influenza died and three others have been diagnosed positive for the same in Uttara Kannada district. 

District Health Officer Dr Ashok Kumar said that 25 persons have been tested for influenza since January and five were tested positive. Of these, three are from Haliyala, one each from Yallapura and Mundagodu. However, the two from Yallapura and Mundagodu have died as they opted for treatment at a much-advanced stage.

The department, he said has directed all government hospitals and community health centres to have adequate stock of medications for the flu.

He said that cold, cough, running nose, headache, body ache and fatigue can be symptoms of the flu and though the flu is not fatal neglecting the symptoms can cause death.
