Fishing boat battery explodes deep sea leaving six injured in Karwar

Karwar: A battery explosion in a purse seine boat leaving six crew member severely injured on Wednesday, September 5 at Karwar.

A boat named Jalapadma had ventured into the sea for fishing with 20 crew members on board. When the boat was returning after fishing on Wednesday, it caught fire deep sea- about 6 kms away from Karwar at a spot called Anjudeep. On witnessing the boat get charred, crew members from another fishing boat from Kerala rushed to the rescue of the distressed fishermen and reached them safely to Baithakol bunder.

The losses are estimated to run into lakhs of rupees. Injured have been rushed to a local hospital.
