Karwar: A bike-lifter, who managed to run away from the COVID ward earlier, has once again escaped from the ward.

The man was arrested by the Sirsi police on charges of bike theft from Dharwad and was lodged in sub jail here. He showed symptoms in the jail and was later tested positive for COVID-19.

He was shifted to KIMS-Karwar and on Monday morning, the man ran away breaking open the ward window. He had also stolen two mobile phones from the ward before running away.

The alert policemen had nabbed him from a place named Kadra on the same day. A sense of fear had gripped the region on Monday itself because it was said that he had travelled to Kadra by bus.

Though he was brought back to the hospital on Monday, he managed to run away from the COVID ward again on Tuesday late night. He had exited the hospital this time by breaking open the backdoor of the hospital, said sources.

The local police has launched a manhunt to nab him.
