Udupi: The Udupi district administration on Thursday issued a warning advising the public and fishermen not to venture into the Arabian Sea for the next week due to heavy rains and gusty winds.
Low pressure system triggers rough sea conditions
Deputy Commissioner and District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) chairperson T.K. Swaroopa stated that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a low-pressure warning over the Arabian Sea. As a result, the Karnataka coast is expected to experience heavy rainfall and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 55 kmph, causing the sea to become rough and unsafe.
Authorities have urged fishermen who are already at sea to return to the shore immediately to ensure their safety.
Emergency contact and safety measures
Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel near coastal areas until conditions stabilise. In case of emergencies, the public can contact the toll-free number 1077 or the district control room at 0820-2574802.
Officials emphasised that these measures are precautionary to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of coastal communities.
