Surathkal: A large coconut tree toppled onto a house near Kuchigudde, close to Surathkal, on Friday night, causing significant damage to the roof. The incident prompted a prompt response from local authorities and elected representatives.
MLA inspects damage and directs relief measures
Following the incident, MLA Dr. Bharath Shetty Y visited the site to assess the extent of the damage. He spoke with the affected family and municipal officials, assuring them of immediate support.
During his visit, Dr. Shetty instructed officials to provide necessary compensation and assistance under the state’s natural calamity relief measures, ensuring the reconstruction of the damaged house is expedited.
Local representatives coordinate relief efforts
Several local leaders were present during the inspection, including municipal councillor Nayana R. Kotian, Raghavendra Shenoy, Divesh Poojary, and Anil Salyan. They coordinated with government officials to implement relief measures swiftly and assess the structural safety of neighbouring homes.
Authorities noted that no casualties were reported from the incident, but the house suffered substantial damage, particularly to the roof and upper portion of the structure.
The MLA urged residents to report any similar incidents promptly to the municipal authorities, highlighting the importance of preventive measures for old or unstable trees, especially during the rainy and windy season.
