In a heart-wrenching incident in Bommanahalli, southeast Bengaluru, a small-time businessman’s alcohol addiction led to the death of his 24-year-old wife, Akshata Sahu. Akshata, originally from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, had been living with her husband, Dheeraj Sahu, and their 11-month-old son in Hongasandra.

Dheeraj, who ran a golgappa stall near their home, reportedly subjected Akshata and their child to violent abuse whenever he was intoxicated. On the night of the tragedy, Dheeraj assaulted his wife again. Later, while both he and their son were asleep, Akshata tragically took her own life by hanging herself from the ceiling in the kitchen.

According to the police, Dheeraj has been charged with abetting his wife’s suicide following the incident. The case highlights the devastating consequences of domestic violence fueled by substance abuse.
