Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed strong support for JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda’s call to unite for the cause of Karnataka, specifically in addressing the state’s irrigation concerns. Despite their past differences, Siddaramaiah and his deputy, D K Shivakumar, both former critics of JD(S), have pledged to back Gowda’s fight for Krishna and Cauvery irrigation issues, as well as river linking initiatives.
In a press statement, Siddaramaiah appealed to Gowda to collaborate in completing pending irrigation projects and initiating new ones, with the aim of securing the state’s water needs. He urged the JD(S) leader to prioritize the state’s interests over party politics and align with the state’s demand for fair fund distribution from the central government. The Chief Minister criticized the current NDA government for what he described as unfair treatment toward Karnataka, especially in relation to funds and key projects like drinking water and railway development.
Siddaramaiah also commented on Deve Gowda’s role, stating that while the former Prime Minister is physically frail at 92, he remains mentally sharp. He called on Gowda to act as a true Kannadiga, focused on the state’s welfare, and rise above party affiliations, particularly after observations of his alignment with the Modi government. Siddaramaiah reminded Gowda of his past support in addressing the Cauvery water issue and stressed the need for a united effort on several ongoing projects, including Mahadayi, Mekedatu, and Upper Bhadra, to benefit Karnataka’s future.
