Chikkamagalur: Enraged villagers slapped a police sub-inspector (PSI) when he pulled out his service revolver to threaten villagers and defend himself following a road accident .Police have booked seven people under various sections of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). Later, villagers resorted to road blocks against the police action and the situation is tense in the vicinity.
PSI Gaviraj’s vehicle was involved in a road accident at Moogthihalli. Villagers soon got into a confrontation with the sub-inspector. In the mean time, PSI Gaviraj pulled out his service revolver to threaten villagers and defend himself. Angered by his action, an irate villager slapped the PSI.
District Superintendent of Police (SP) Annamalai rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation immediately. Villagers resorted to road blocks and the situation turned tense. Villagers were seen arguing with the SP over the incident holding PSI Gaviraj responsible for the turn of events.
Police have booked the accused under CrPC sections 326,353 and 504 after PSI Gaviraj lodged a complaint. Investigations are being carried out in the city police station and more people are likely to be arrested based on the video footage available with the police department.
