Unauthorised tents built in Govt land demolished, residents demand alternative site

Mudigere: Tension gripped in the area when the officials along with police security evicted over 175 unauthorisedly built huts on the government plot in Old Mudigere Gram Panchayath area here on April 24.

gudisalu inThe team led by Tahshildar arrived at the spot at around 7.30 am and demolished the tents erected at the government land without prior notice to the residents.

The residents confronted the move and demanded an alternative site stating that they were shelterless. When the officials went ahead with the eviction, the residents raised slogans against the district panchayat member as well as the block Congress president.

Soon when the situation went out of control, more police teams from other stations were called to the spot. The residents started protesting when the officials after the demolition tried to load the utensils, clothes and other things into the tractors. On confrontation, the officials returned the things.

Tahsildar Nandakumar, over 40 revenue department officials, DySP Shiekh Hussain, Circle Inspector Jagadish and others were present.
