Two constables get cash reward for their bravery during Datta Jayanthi

dattamala1Chikkamagaluru: Two police constables have been presented with cash reward by the Superintendent of police for their presence of mind and bravery during communal clash in Chikkamagaluru.

Superintendent of police K Annamalai in a release stated that following Datta Jayanthi in the district police officers and staff had arrived from various districts and cities to ensure security. On December 3, a group of dattamaladharis hoisted the ‘Bhagwadwaja’ on tombs on the disputed hill shrine. The group broke the fence laid by the district administration to safeguard the tombs and attempted to destroy some of the tombs at the spot.

However, two constables Gurudev Pavade Dayagonda from Madikeri Shrimangala station and S P Galagali of Belagavi Sadalaga station who were on duty at the spot prevented further damage to the tombs and despite the chances of getting attacked by the group, they took control of the situation by dispersing the mob immediately.

District police department hence has decided to honour the brave constables with Rs 10,000 cash prize for their presence of mind, bravery and determination during the tough time.

SP also informed that their names have been recommended for DG Commandation Letter’ from Karnataka police chief.
