Bengaluru: On Sunday, Chikkamagalur witnessed a huge flow of tourists from across the state and neighboring Kerala raising the fear of COVID 19 spread among the locals.
According to the locals who spoke to News Karnataka, on Sunday thousands of tourists arrived at the city and various hill stations including Baba Budangiri, Mullayanagiri, etc. “There was hardly any physical distancing among the tourists. All the safety rules were thrown to the wind. Hotels were also overcrowded,” alleged a resident of the city who wished to be unnamed.
“There were many Kerala registered vehicles also,” he said.
Locals want the district administration to ban the arrival of outsiders into the tourist destination as there is always a possibility of the spread of COVID 19. “District is now not safe. Several COVID 19 cases reported already. We already lost business for two months. There is not much harm in waiting for a few more days,” say locals.
