Chikkamagaluru: The water crisis in the region sparked tense situation in Koppa taluk landing three women in the hospital allegedly after policemen assaulted them.
The assaulted women have been admitted to Koppa government hospital.
As per sources, on May 3, Tuesday, the villagers of Kaurigudda here got into an altercation with the local Gram Panchayat water man over erratic water supplies.
While the matter died down after a while, on Thursday, the same issue snowballed into a crisis.
Locals staged a stir outside the Gram Panchayat demanding drinking water and action against the arrogant water man. When the police and the Home Guards rushed to the spot a tiff broke out between the cops and the villagers. Three women were assaulted in the melee.
The situation in the village remained tense.
It is said that no lady police were at the spot and women were manhandled by the male cops.
