Chikkamagaluru/ Madikeri: Heavy downpour continued to lash across various parts of the state even on Monday night too. In Chikkamagaluru, the District Administration has declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Mudigere, Koppa, Sringeri and NR Pura taluks.

As per reports hundreds of vehicles are stranded in the Charmadi Ghat section, which remains closed for traffic, for nearly 12 hours now due to a landslide. The traffic issue has been aggravated since vehicles from Bengaluru are also plying through the Charmadi route owing to the repair works at Shiradi Ghat. Moreover, the Mangaluru-Bengaluru train services have been canceled due to the landslide at several places.

Due to heavy rains in Chikkamagaluru district, water is flowing over Hebbale bridge which connects Horanadu with Kalasa. Downpour in Mudigere, Koppa, Sringeri and NR Pura taluks caused increased inflow in the Bhadra, Tunga and Hemavati rivers. Rain fury was witnessed even in Hassan district.

The incessant rainfall in Kodagu district has increased the water-levels in Cauvery river. ‘Ganji center’ has been established for rain-affected people in Karadigodu government school. Notice has been served to 104 houses of Karadigodu and 67 houses of Guyya village directing people to move towards a safer place.
