Chikkamagaluru: The mother of 20-year-old Dhanyashree who ended her life last week, has agreed that she had indeed received a threatening call from sanghis.

In a media statement, Dhanya’s mother Saraswathi said, “Pro-Hindu outfits on a phone call had threatened the family. It was reported that they belonged to Mudigere unit which is not true. I received a call from someone claiming to be a member of Belthangady Bajrang Dal unit. My daughter has also written about the entire issue in her death note.” She further said, “The Hindu activists asked us not to support Muslims. The caller used to repeatedly make calls to my daughter and harassed her.”

Earlier, Dhanyashree’s father had filed a complaint at Mudigere station stating that she had committed suicide after he forcibly snatched her mobile for not studying well. An FIR was also registered in this case. But now during primary investigation, police have found that the girl was harassed by the right wing activists.

The pro-Hindu activists had been to her house and alleged that she was roaming around with a guy from another religion. They also threatened her after informing her parents. Her father hence did not give her the phone and Dhanyashree after realising that the issue is spread in the locality and among her friends, took the extreme step three days ago.

One person has been arrested in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway.
