New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi will appear before the Patiala House Court in Delhi on Saturday, December 19 in the National Herald Case.
The two are among six people – including other top Congress leaders and Gandhi family associates – accused by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy of trying to illegally acquire real estate worth thousands of crores belonging to the now defunct newspaper National Herald.

The two are expected to appear before the Court at 3 pm and party sources said that the two are open to availing all legal remedies and options including bail, even as earlier reports claimed that Rahul Gandhi has turned down the proposal from the party members to get bail bonds ready for himself. It was said that he wanted a bail bond for his Mother Sonia Gandhi and other senior leaders accused in the case, specifically because, he wanted to bring to fore the ‘political vendetta’ claim that he had made.

After the court appearance they will head to the party headquarters, 24 Akbar Road, and address the media, it was added. Before the appearance, party leaders and lawmakers will converge at the Congress headquarters in a show of strength.

Dr Swamy had filed a case in this regard in 2012, before he joined the BJP. The court had issued summons to the Gandhis in 2014, which they challenged in the Delhi High Court. Earlier this month, the HC refused to stay the summons.

The Congress, all this while had used the National Herald Case to attack the ruling BJP stating that it was pure political vendetta against the Congress.
