Patna: Patna Sahib MP Shatrughan Sinha has decided to attend the January 19 Opposition meet called by West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress Supremo Mamata Banerjee in her home state.

Sinha has been criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and PM Narendra Modi on issues like rising fuel prices, demonetisation, alleged Rafale scam etc.

According to reports, the BJP has asked Sinha to leave the party if he wishes to.

A report in the Hindustan Times said the advice to the Patna Sahib MP was given by Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister and senior party leader Sushil Modi. The BJP leader reportedly said that Sinha had “fallen into the bad company of Yashwant Sinha.”

“Shatrughan Sinha is also my icon but the manner in which he is targeting the BJP, he should quit. He is using all sorts of language against the party which made him the Cabinet minister, Rajya Sabha member for two terms and gave him two terms in the Lok Sabha”, Modi said.

However, Sinha has refused to quit the BJP and has challenged the party to sack him. Sinha has also been advising the leadership to mend ways and embrace a more secular outlook.

With the rising indifferences within the BJP, Sinha has also been meeting opposition leaders. He had recently called on ailing Lalu Prasad Yadav at his home in Patna.

Sinha had praised Lalu’s son and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, describing him as a ‘very mature leader.’ He had also praised Congress President Rahul Gandhi on many occasions.
