Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy’s sit-in protest entered third day, on Sunday near Raj Nivas the Lieutenant Governor’s official residence.

The CM started the protest on Friday demanding the Central government to recall Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi.

The ruling Congress-led Secular Democratic Alliance, which is led by Narayanasamy alleged that the Leiutenant Governor was not allowing the elected government to function.

The CM’s cabinet colleagues, legislators of the ruling party, and workers of the alliance parties participated in the dharna and most of them were seen holding posters and placards, reading “Corporate Modi Quit! Quit!, Call back Kiran Bedi.”

“People will sit peacefully and agitate for at least three days,” the Chief Minister had said adding that the demand to recall Bedi was kept in 2019 as well.

“Now it has peaked. She is now returning files, overruling the decision of the cabinet, overruling the decision of the minister. This is not the job of the Lieutenant Governor…she has no independent power or authority. She has no respect for law or constitution. She is the constitution herself,” the protesting CM told NDTV.

He also accused the Prime Minister and Bedi of conspiring to merge Puducherry with Tamil Nadu.

Bedi was appointed as the Lieutenant Governor in 2016 and the two have had clashes over administrative matters since then.
