Prayagraj: Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered a ‘pooja’ at Sangam ghat in Prayagraj, after taking a holy dip in the ‘Sangam’ (confluence of river Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati) on Sunday, February 24. Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath accompanied him.
In an event organised by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation – ‘Swachh Kumbh Swachh Aabhaar’, PM Modi washed the feet of sanitation workers. Modi washed and later cleaned their feet with a white cloth.
Modi, accompanied by Yogi Adityanath performed aarti and took blessings from the priests who tied a sacred thread to his wrist. The Prime Minister also offered ‘dakshina’ to the priests.
PM Modi who arrived in Prayagraj in a special Indian Air Force (IAF) chopper, was received by Adityanath and Health Minister Siddhartha Nath Singh along with other officials of the district.
The Kumbh Mela, which is the world’s largest religious gathering, and draws millions of pilgrims, began on Makar Sankranti (Jan 15) and will end on Mahashivratri (Mar 4).
