New Delhi: Merely a few months after losing a young and charismatic leader like Jyotiraditya Scindia to the BJP and subsequently losing Madhya Paadesh, the Congress is facing yet another crisis. This time around Sachin Pilot and the state of Rajasthan.
While Scindia quit the party after reportedly due to an old v/s young conflict, the same scenario is said to be plaguing Rajasthan, where Pilot, Deputy CM of Rajasthan seems to be sharing not so cordial equation with Chief Minister Ashok Gehot.
If sources are to be believed then Pilot is in talks with the BJP, claiming that he has support of 16 MLAs and three independents.
The next move of Pilot is still being speculated. While some say he is in talks with the BJP, many say that he is thinking of floating a regional party and remain away from joining hands with the BJP.
It may be recalled that when Scindia joined the BJP, Pilot had openly said that Scindia’s exit from the Congress was ‘unfortunate,’ and that things could have been resolved ‘collaboratively’ within the party.
Pilot is now in Delhi with some of his loyalist MLAs, talking to the party high command. What compelled Pilot to make the move is a letter.
Sources say that a letter asking Sachin Pilot to appear for questioning in an investigation into alleged attempts to destabilize the state government was the last straw.
Pilot was summoned by the Special Operations Group on Friday over the complaint filed ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections by Rajasthan Chief Whip Mahesh Joshi.
The Congress holds 107 seats in the 200-seat Rajasthan Assembly and has support from 12 independent candidates. In addition, five MLAS from other parties — the Rashtriya Lok Dal, the CPM and the Bharatiya Tribal Party – support Mr Gehlot.
