Panaji: Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parikkar, who was back after a three-month long treatment of pancreatic cancer in the United States had resumed his routine. Currently, he is flown to Delhi AIIMS (All India Insititute of Medical Sciences) for a series of checkups and treatments on September 15.
Deepak Dhavalikar, President of MGP (Maharstrawadi Gomantak Party), one of the alliances in the BJP-led government of Goa said, “It is high time Parikkar handed over the charges of Goa CM to one of the senior most ministers ensuring the smooth functioning of the government.”
Answering the question on the talks of the next CM, BJP President Amit Shah said, “We are praying for Manohar Parikkar’s speedy recovery and the decision will be taken when the time comes.”
Deepak Dhavalikar, on the question of whether his brother Sudin Dhavalikar (PWD minister in Parikkar’s cabinet) should be appointed as the CM, he said, “Let the party decide who is senior and let the seniormost lead the government.”
On the question of merger with BJP, Deepak said, “There is no question of merger. We have 12-13 percent of the seats. We want to restrain from any such offer and set the party as the future of Goan politics.”
Meanwhile, reacting to the statements of Deepak Dhavalikar, the GFP (Goan Forward Party) Chief Vijai Sardesai, also the Agricultural minister in the current cabinet ranking, said, “It is not necessary that what MGP demands happens. Decisions will be taken collectively as it is a coalition government.”
The Congress party has blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party for the mess.
An Independent Legislator Govind Gawde has said, “It is not the question of opting the senior most, but keeping in mind the choosing of the right person who can take the lead responsibly.”
Amid this, Sadanand Tanavade, BJP General Secretary has said, “It is the prerogative of the chief minister whether to appoint a delegate or not, as the party has no say in it.”
