New Delhi: The arrival of the monsoon rains will be delayed by five days in Kerala and will lash on June 6, the India Meteorological Department said on Wednesday, May 15. Usually, rains arrive in the southern tip of Kerala during June 1.
According to Skymet, a private weather forecasting agency, on June 4, rains are expected to begin on the country’s southern coast but the average rainfall predicted is than average this year.
“The forecast points at a delayed southwest monsoon in Kerala. The rains may shower here on June 6 or 4 days prior or later,” says the weather office.
” The southwest monsoon will advance over the southern part of Andaman Sea, Nicobar Islands and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal during May,” it added.
However, it is also being said that the delay in the arrival of monsoon need not essentially affect the overall amount of rainfall.
Meanwhile, the delay in the onset of monsoon is not exclusive to this year alone. It had begun on June 5 in In 2014, June 6 in 2015 and June 8 in 2016.
