Railway and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal was criticised by Twitterati when he insinuated that Einstein discovered gravity at a Board of Trade meeting, on Thursday, September 12.
Goyal’s statement was made in an attempt to defend the Central Government from allegations of a nation-wide economic slowdown.
Going into a rant against GDP calculations, Goyal said, “Don’t get into calculations that you see on television…don’t get into those maths.”
“Maths never helped Einstein discover gravity,” he added.
The Union Minister further said, “If he had only gone through structured formulae and what was past knowledge, I don’t think there would have been any innovation in the world.”
The video of the incident soon went viral on Twitter and spurred several reactions from users of the micro-blogging site.
One user wrote, “Why should Nirmala have all the fun? Piyush Goyal has just delivered a blockbuster dialogue…”
Former Finance Minister @PiyushGoyal is correct, Einstein did not require maths to discover gravity, but Sir Isaac Newton did.
FYI, maths is also required to #FixTheEconomy. pic.twitter.com/Nr3QyYbPpA

It can be recalled that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also faced criticism recently when she insinuated that “Millenials” were to blame for the reduction in automobile sales.
