Mumbai: With no party being able to form a government at the state, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has sent a report to the center that President’s rule should be imposed in the state.
After the BJP said that it did not have the majority to form the government, the Governo invited the Shiv Sena to form the government. However, till yesterday, the Sena failed to produce the majority needed to form the government.
The Congress party, which had reportedly earlier promised support from outside to the Shiv Sena-NCP alliance, later denied the same. The NCP too did not send the letter of support to the Sena till Monday, thereby dampening hopes of the Sena to form the government after breaking ties with longstanding partner BJP.
The governor had then asked the third-largest party, the NCP to prove majority. It is said that the NCP too is unlikely to show the required numbers to stake a claim. The NCP has time till 8.30 pm on Tuesday to show its majority.
The alliance between the BJP and Shiv Sena ended in a rather bitter manner when the latter stood firm on the demand for 50:50 seat-sharing matrix and also having the Chief Minister’s post on a rotational basis. The BJP was firm that it will never agree to these demands. The Sena moved out saying that it had other options available and the BJP, which emerged as single-largest party, recently told the Governor that it will not form the government as it did not have required numbers to form the government.
