Thiruvananthapuram: The Family Health Centre at Kondotty, Vazhakkad in Malappuram district now has the reputation of being the largest family health centre in the country. The hospital, which was devastated by the floods in 2018, was rebuilt at a cost of Rs 10 crores. It was rebuilt by VPS Healthcare under the leadership of Dr Shamsir Vayal and handed over to the government. The hospital will be inaugurated by Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan on July 24.

The structure of the building was designed by experts from IIT, Madras. The building was designed by architecture students from the Govt. College of Engineering, Thrissur.

The 15,000 sq ft Family Health Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and the facilities here are similar to those at private hospitals. The health centre has the latest amenities including an emergency room, mini operation theatre, laboratory incorporating the newest technologies, imaging department, consulting rooms, nursing station, medical store, vaccine store, sample collection centre, vision and dental clinic, and specialised areas for mothers and pregnant women. The new building has a well-equipped conference hall, an open gymnasium, a playground for children and lift ramp facilities for the disabled.

In the present Covid scenario, the hospital is also equipped with ten observation beds with oxygen concentrators and a stabilization unit that is useful for patients with low oxygen saturation.

The reconstruction of this hospital building is a testimony to the excellence of the health sector under the public health project, Aardram Mission. Aardram (Aarokya Keralam), is one of the four missions under the ‘Nava Kerala Mission’ initiated by the government of Kerala, which aims at the same deliverables at the grass-root level. It was launched with the objective to completely transform the public health sector in the State.
