New Delhi: Who’s to say what can or can’t be considered news? Is it news when there’s a scientific breakthrough? Is it news when shots are fired in a well-known violent region?… Or Is it news when Taimur (son of Bollywood stars Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan) does something?
While some people may want to know everything about what every celebrity (their families too) does at any given point in time, there is a place where they can get this information… it’s called social media.
Many news portals have been guilty of covering every little detail about the celebrities and their families. While it is nice to hear about your favourite star’s goings-on, it can get a little embarrassing when a once hailed media house becomes the butt of jokes for their coverage of a celebrity baby. Sure the kid is cute… that doesn’t mean everything he does is newsworthy.
Recently, several mainstream media houses in India published articles on Saif’s son calling him “Abba”.
Times of India had tweeted a link to the article saying: “#Taimur calls #SaifAliKhan “Abba” via @etimes”.
The Twitterati were not too happy to see a news portal turning something as simple as “bete ne abba ko abba bola” (as one Twitter user put is) into well… news!
The tweet received around 1100 comments, almost all of which were abuses and criticisms.
One user and disappointed customer of the news portal tweeted that he was “sick” of this and added that he had uninstalled their app. He tweeted again saying, “it’s “times of taimur” almost everyday I c tis guy on @timesofindia without fail. I feel like @timesofindia is teasing Hindus by flaunting d “name” on purpose. (sic)”
Another user replied: “To aur kya apne abba ko langda tyagi bulayega?? U ppl r defining new low of journalism each day Toilet Paper!! (sic)”
Even Barkha Dutt took time out of her busy day to retweet the item and said: “Doesn’t the news feel like a self parody these days”.

Some, however, chose to take a more humourous angle and poked fun at the tweet.
Taimur has been the cynosure of lensmen soon after his birth and continues to be the most followed star kid.
