Hyderabad: A woman who suffered 70 percent burns after a jilted lover splashed fuel at her and set her ablaze in full public view on Thursday in Hyderabad, died on Friday morning after battling for life for hours.
The heart wrenching incident took place at Lalaguda area when 25-year-old Sandhya Rani was walking back home from work.
Sandhya was working in an aluminium door production unit as a receptionist and it is believed that Sandhya came to know her attacker about one year ago, following which the attacker had expressed his lover for her and Sandhya had rejected the same.
Raged by this, the attacker may have plotted to kill her and on Thursday, when Sandhya was returning home, the attacker waylaid her and tried to strike a conversation with her. During a course of a heated argument, the attacker splashed petrol on her and set her on fire.
“The couple had an argument over the phone recently, when the attacker identified as Karthik asked her to quit the job. Sandhya insisted on continuing to work and over this confusion, they both seemed to have broken their relationship,” said DCP Sumathi to The Hindu.
Meanwhile, Deccan Chronicle reported that Sandhya had declined the attacker’s advances stating that it was all against her family’s values.
